FAQs

Q: What is a DPM ?
A:  Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) are physicians and surgeons who  treat conditions affecting the lower extremities, primarily on feet and  ankles. The education of most DPMs includes four years of undergraduate  education ( BA or BS degree)  followed by four years in an accredited  podiatric medical school, followed by a hospital-based residency.

Q: What hospitals do you work at?
A:  If at any time your condition requires hospital admission, we admit patients at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, St. Lucie Medical Center and Cleveland Clinic at Tradition. We are also available for consultation. If you are admitted to any of the above hospitals and need a foot and ankle specialist just  ask your admitting physician to call us.
We also see patients in the  Wound Center at SLMC and tradition medical center .

Q: I  think I have an infection but it is  8:00 PM on Friday what should I Do?
A:   From an infected ingrown nail or a fractured toe  to an infected  diabetic foot ulcer or a fractured ankle call as soon as possible. We  would rather see our patients a dozen times and reassure them that they  are okay, then have them not call the one time that they underestimate  the extent of an infection or injury.

Q: Do you treat children ?
A:  Yes, we treat patients of all ages. We frequently see children for  problems with nails, cuts, puncture wounds, infections, warts, sports  injuries and congenital deformities, such as flat feet and bunions.

Q: Do you take my insurance and Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
A:  We accept most insurance plans including most HMO,PPO,POS plans as well  as traditional fee for service plans. We also participate in Medicare. A  referral  is seldom required, except with some plans from outside  Florida. Please call and we will be happy to check what benefits you  have available from your insurance company for our services. If you do  not have insurance— we may be able to create a payment plan for you.

Q: Do Insurance companies cover elective foot surgery?
A: Yes, with very few exceptions. Most insurance
companies  cover the surgical treatment of painful foot deformities and other  conditions affecting the foot and ankle. Cosmetic procedures are not  usually covered.
